World Series Game 7 Captures Over 50 Million Viewers Across the United States, Canadian and Japanese Markets.

The thrilling 11-inning matchup that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Toronto Blue Jays by one run drew a combined over 50 million viewers across the United States, Canadian, and Japanese territories. MLB announced this represents the most-watched World Series Game 7 since the 1991 showdown between the Twins and Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Breakdown

Last Saturday’s epic contest averaged over 27 million audience members on Fox networks, Fox Deportes and their streaming platforms. Per Nielsen, it was the second most-watched program of the week.

It also is the most-watched Fall Classic matchup after the 2017 final game involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Astros, which averaged over 29 million. This marks a sixteen percent improvement compared to the last finale between the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros, which attracted 23.19 million viewers.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game placed 4th, the fourth game ranked seventh, Game 5 came in 8th, and Game 3 landed in 13th position.

Global Viewership Figures

In Canada, the game drew 11.6M viewers on the Sportsnet network and the French TVA Sports channel. This made it the most-watched English program in Canada after the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the deciding game started at 9 p.m. local time, it drew 12 million. This followed the previous Friday’s Game 6 – in which Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yamamoto gave up a single run in six innings – averaged 13.1M viewers, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic matchup on a single network in the country.

Series Averages and Trends

The entire seven-game World Series averaged over 15.7 million viewers on the Fox network, a two percent rise from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This represents the first time since 2015 and ‘16 that the Fall Classic has recorded audience increases for two consecutive seasons.

Including the opening game broadcast on Univision, the total US average reached over 16 million. The total Fall Classic average in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1M in the Canadian market.

The complete MLB Postseason on Fox, FS1 and FS2 drew 8.09M watchers, an 8% rise over the previous year and Fox’s strongest postseason performance after 2017.

Major League Baseball reported that the World Series was televised in over 200 nations and regions by forty-four media partners in 16 various tongues.
